I L O V E the idea of having fireplaces/stoves in all of the shelters ....but when I consider how many fire rings I have had to dig out (there was so much debris and ash that the fire ring was more like an over flowing trash can) the amount of trash left in them;and/or the number of times I have come up on a fire/fire ring which is still smoldering after the last careless camper left it burning ...I am just as glad that fireplaces/stoves are few and far between.

In a perfect world fireplaces/stoves in all of the shelter would be a nice addition ...but so would graffiti-free shelters; composting toilets where the last 100 or so campers actually bothered to put the duff in them; people not digging their initials into the shelters; many backpackers actually volunteering to do trail maintenance...etc. etc. etc.
