    Default standing Bear Hostel

    Hey all!
Just wanted to say from all my contacts with Curtis and Maria at Standing Bear Hostel they are all good! I have a night and morning shuttle scheduled with the in mid October to knock out the north end of the GSMNP. Curtis helped me plan a trip with my son and is very helpful. We are excited to hit the trail. I have been on the trail in the spring with thru hikers, but this is our first fall hike. So HIKE ON!!!!

Curtis was a great help on my October 2011 GSMNP hike. Fall hiking rocks!

Glad to hear Standang Bear Farm is still in opperation. I was hiker #8 to stay there in 2001. Curtis was just finishing up the sign.

That was always my experience too, back in '05 on the occasions I stayed or left vehicle or got Curtis to shuttle vehicle for me and my wife. SBF was the end of one section hike (through the Smokies) and the start of another (to Hot Springs).

Great location too, where the AT is in remote territory.

Just used SBF on my hike from the hostel over to Hot Springs last weekend. They had a death in the family but still made arrangements for one of their hired hands to come and pick me up in Hot Springs. I thought Curtis went above and beyond to make sure I was accommodated.

Will definitely use them again whenever I do the Smokies.

We've used him a few times when we were in the area, great to talk with during the ride, good laughs.

As far as "above and beyond" he pulled me and 2 of my bro-in-laws out at a forest road crossing when my father-in-law had a stroke in 2008. It was an "off day" that he wasn't doing any shuttles and he sacrificed time with his family to meet us 30min after I called. Never forget that.

Curtis and Maria did nothing but right by me on our hike through and spent a night. I like the old fashioned washing machine replete with wringer on the rollers. Maria ran a Mexican restaurant, does anyone know the name of it? I do not remember....

I think Curtis is a great person on the trail. I would be a little leary of people who may try to put him down.
