I have seen them in the Sipsey Wilderness, Alabama.....
Let's head for the roundhouse; they can't corner us there!
Also saw them Saturday night at 23 but not nearly as many.

I've always wondered if #21 or #24 would have sync fire flies.
yes, from what ive heard.........
I’ve seen them at CS 9 and 113.
Never gotten to see them. This thread did not help my current situation of missing the smokies. Haven't been since the first week in January. Glad you got to see them!
thanks everyone for sharing your secrets on this topic. I made the pilgrimage to Elkmont once several for the fireflies --saw a ton, but not synchronous. I've always wanted to see a good firefly show in the backcountry.
Found another Smokies campsite with synchronous fireflies.
Took a long 4th of July weekend camping trip. On the evening of July 1st, we were at CS47 on Enloe Creek Trail (the one right at the truss bridge where one set of bear cables on the bridge as well as a bear pole). As we started to bed, I happened to notice a rapid flashing outside the tent. Got up to check it out and was surprised to see a light show of the GSMNP synchronous fireflies. There were not as many as I had previously seen. perhaps about 100... but it quite the surprise since they were considered well past their prime by then.
On a side note, we were at CS48 the night before. No synchronous fireflies... but we saw "regular" fireflies by the thousands. It was almost like the woods were lite up like a forest of Christmas trees.

yeah.....
campsite has such a small footprint that they had to be creative in how to hang bags......
