Hardly the first. Consider all the pioneers who traveled cross-country with their infants.
This was from a hike I participated in in 1980-81. Started in San Francisco, hiked to Lewes, Delaware in 14 months - including the AT from Damascus to Harper's Ferry. The couple with the six month old infant in the film made it the entire way, sometimes taking alternate routes through the most hostile terrain out west.
Just a note, starting at 2:02 in the film, the music is performed by the infant in the film - Jamie Pyles (obviously a few years later).

any word?...
they didn't start at springer?
Looks like they started at 311 going South.
What an epic adventure, that kid will remember that for the rest of his life....
Let's head for the roundhouse; they can't corner us there!
I was section hiking last weekend going North and met up with the family at Davis Path Campsite on Sunday. From 311 that's over 160 miles in two weeks. Not a bad start. They were all packed up and headed out South. Mom and Dad was relaxed and happy, Ellie the baby was smiling and curious. Talk to them a few minutes, they are all doing well and were in good spirits to continue the thruhike.
Anyone hear from or seen this family? They have not had a blog update since 4/2.

Update they are 100 miles from springer today and still planning to flip back to Katahdin.

They made it to Springer yesterday, so they have completed 708 miles.
12.9 MPD average if they started March 21st. If they plan to flip to Katahdin, they had best wait a while. Even here in the Whites, not all the snow is gone and streams are running high and fast making fording very dangerous. It will be at least another few weeks before getting through the 100 mile wilderness is possible, assuming it finally stops raining! We got snow this morning too, probably a good 6" up at elevation! Central/northern Maine is getting the brunt of this late season Nor'easter, another inch or two of rain.

I wonder if they'll come back up to Roanoke and regroup, then head north from 311.
After walking 700 miles south to Springer, they took a break waiting for the weather to improve at Katahdin. They are now at Katahdin, ready to head south.
