Scope- I'll join you in that minority. I hate cranberry sauce.

But I love that tuna/pasta/cheese casserole- seriously, it's the perfect mix, and I only just remembered about it. Maybe hiking food- perfect mix!!!

The words "beer" and "lime" do not belong in the same cluster of words.

Do the words "beer" and "chocolate" belong in the same cluster of words? For instance, Young's Double Chocolate Stout, Rogue Chocolate Stout, Sam Adams Chocolate Bock. C'mon now, you know it's tempting.

I think they do- I've made chocolate stout before, interesting flavor.

Now the words "Russian" and "beer" not only belong together, but are interchangeable.

That being said, assuming you're a guest somewhere this week, i.e. you have no real say on what is or is not being served.........what's the ONE item you absolutely don't wanna see on the table, i.e. something you just have no use for, yet it pops up every damned year?

OK, naming one is too hard. Let's give you five.

    To get started:

*That indescribably nasty sweet potato/marshmallow thing. I would rather be
    waterboarded than eat this stuff.
    *Turnips.
*That funked out jello mold (you know, the light green one with the mandarin
oranges and other stuff suspended inside it).
    *Three bean salad.
*Beets in any way shape or form.
i second the elimination of the sweet potato/ marshmallow concoction, and i'll add green bean caserole to the list. why ruin perfectly good green beans by dumping creme of mushroom soup on them?

don't get me wrong, i don't find either to be revolting or anything; they're just a waste of perfectly good stomach space.

    - casseroles of any kind
    - beets
    - anything with tuna in it - Nasty! Now a big (real) tuna steak would be different but that canned tuna...... NASTY!
    - any thing bean salad or bean like
    - turnips ......

Just give me a big pile of dead bird (or any dead animal for that matter) and mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes ..... I am done for the day!!!!!

Can't argue with that. I love dead cow. I plan on trying the six pound burger at Fattie's Diner in Damascus.

we have wild turkey every year since i was able to carry a gun. The first time I had wild turkey ,I forgot to clean out the "craw" and we had an extra portion of baked corn. It was very bad and i do not want to see that "craw corn" ever again! That being said the wild turkay beats the Butter Ball every time for flavor.

    Happy Thanksgiving to all

Ah but what about homemade cranberry sauce from real whole cranberries - not the sugury stuff from the can??? I enjoy making all things cranberry and have both a cranberry cookbook and a plethora of cranberry recipes from other sources. Yesterday I made a cranberry coffee cake and last month while entertaining some friends, I prepared cranberry sauerbraten.

Re.turnips, it's funny. My brother insists on turnips every Thanksgiving even though he'll never eat them any other time of year; it's an obligation or duty, like a form of penance. And they must be yellow - white will not suffice. I'm neutral on turnips - if served, I'll eat them but if I never had them again in my life, I wouldn't feel deprived.

This view may also be unpopular but I don't like typical pecan or pumpkin pies. By "typical," I mean served in a plain blah white-flour usually store-bought crust with the filling being simply canned pumpkin or dark corn syrup. I don't know why the latter is termed "pecan pie" when the pie is really corn syrup.

My wife is a great cook and every thing she puts on the table is fantastic. Having said that I DON'T want to see a cat on the table but I probably will. (Warrgy your up.)

Probably, but my favorite is to drink beer and eat ice cream. It's especially good on a hot summer afternoon. Don't ask me why but the flavors really excite my taste buds.

Come to think of it, it may just be a new Thanksgiving tradition!

To those that do not care for sweet potatos.
Are they from a can or fresh?
Year round I love fresh sweet potatos baked a couple of hours. They do not need anything added to them but are good candied in brown suger. The marshmallows do not belong.

I do not want to see anything prepackaged/trail food

Pecan pie is great, but chocolate pecan pie is greater.
We went to "Junior League Sweet Potatoes" instead of the marshmallow thing years ago. Sweet enough to serve for desert, but man do I love them.

Please, no damned Stove Top stuffing.

Be at least a little creative and give me some cornbread stuffing with oysters, or stuffing made with bagels and chorizo, or SOMETHING, just no Stove Top.

Oddly enough, my favorite hiking food is Stove Top mushroom stuffing.

thats my favorite too. i like my spiral ham/glazed and good stuffing also.
    no use for:
    1# kimchee
    2# beets
    3# macaroni salad
    4# broccoli
    5# turkey ?
i hardly ever eat turkey on turkey day,i prefer the glazed spiral ham. i eat the turkey over the next few days (sandwiches)cold with light miricle whip/mayonnaise which i also seldom use except on tuna sandwiches &thanksgiving.
    HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YA ALL
