If you're headed north there's no need to rush.
    Stop and enjoy those viewpoints!

I love the steps in front of the shelter. I wish more had steps like that. Are you standing on top of the fire pit?

I was told while hiking the northern part of the trail that porcupines will get into the shelter if you make it easy for them. I never saw a porcupine but I did see a little wood chewing on some of the northern shelters' parts.

The bench steps out front are really nice for keeping stuff out of the mud in summer. I was standing about four feet above the fire pit when taking that pic

More here if folks are interested. Spent a few days up there last week. One of my favorite snow camping spots, but nice in summer too heh.

Agreed on the strange stuff out there, but I've gotten enough looks to know that sometimes I'm the strange one.

That shelter is usually full of mice & sleeping in there can be a real circus so I camp in the woods. It seemed totally devoid of rodents this year though. Something seems to have eaten them all over the winter. Bumper crop of owls this year may make for a nice summer at the shelters.
