In my tent in a thin plastic shopping bag
Vestibule, or under the edges of my inflatable pad to keep it from sliding on uneven ground-that may be in or under the inner net or bathtub floor, depending on the condition of the shoes.
For me, there is not one single solution to this, but depending on the circumstances it can be as follows:
- regularily, under the vestibule of the tent, plus usually I put my drinking bottle inside the boot (I dont like having a full bottle inside the tent, in case it leaked)
- under normal camping conditions but on an uneasy slope, the boots might be stuck under the foot end of the tent
- when cowboy camping, my shoes will stand right to my head within easy reach, in the left shoe I'd put the goggles and in the right one the headlamp
- when freezing, the boots go inside the tent, cleaned as well as possible
- when deep freezing, the boots go inside the sleeping bag (at least the inner part of double-layer boots)
Due to old desert-trained behavior, I'd shake every shoe/boot realy well before putting it on, every time.
I put my big shoes and pack under a pack cover. My small shoes go in the tent. I'd like a better technique. I never expected sealed bags to be popular. For those who store them indoors, why don't you store them in a breathable container outdoors in a vestibule?

Depends on the reason why to put them indoors.
If its mice and critters, any bag, be it breathable or not, will not stop mice finding the yummy pieces to chew at.
If its freezing, indoors is the only way to prevent from.
A separate question might be, should the dirty boots stored inside go into a plastic bag, or a breathable one, or withour any bag?
Don't have the perfect solution for this so far - in lack of a bag I just clean the boots as well as possible and put them in the tent without any bag.
Everyone must be extremely bored to be endlessly discussing where to put your boots at night.
I do things depending on the tent and weather. I usually will pull them inside with me (and voted as such) though I may leave them in the vestibule or even under the floor of the tent.
Usually outside, in a vestibule.
In my tent mesh, in the corner. Unless they are completely sogged and they just stay in the vestibule.

Outside under a flap, unless it's raining and they are still dry.
Once upon a time I use to store my boots outside the tent in the vestibule or on the edge of the lean-to, till someone nearby found his boots chewed up by porcupines n had to walk out in his socks. Im sure where my boots were, Id hear the critters... but what would you do about it when it becomes an issue at 4am?.. those porkies dont back down!
So now my boots are in a sealed bag in a corner by my head in the tent or lean-to.
Or, if we should munch those spaghetties dry, or with some cheese? Or leave them dangle for the critters for good?
