It was once thought that the "canebrake" and timber were two different species.
They are in fact the same snake...my Latin's rusty but i think it's Crotalus horidus ?
This is the biggest Timber Rattlesnake I've seen.. -

Look at the length of the stick used to hold the snake. Perspective is everything. The snake looks to be at least 4 to 6 feet closer to the camera. I've never seen a timber rattler over 4 feet. -
