Best quote I can recall on similar plans: "I bet against him".
Aside from that, the article is mistaken in suggesting he average 60 mpd. If he looks to break JPD's record by 4 days, he will need to hike 2180 miles/43.5 days = 50 mpd (roughly). Starting in late Nov thru western ME and NH. Yeah, good luck with that.

Best of luck to him. I think however he will run into a large storm of reality. His odds of beating her record unassisted at this time of year is less than 1%.
Lead, Follow, or get out of the way. I'm goin hikin.
Lost his job...lost his fiance....leaving Nov 10....lost his mind.

I hope he enjoys his hike..........

Not surprising though, it's about the right time of year for the next batch of "record attempts" to start coming out of the woodwork.

He won't make it out of the 100 mile wilderness. My prediction.
[QUOTE= His odds of beating her record unassisted at this time of year is less than 1%.[/QUOTE] That seems WAY optimistic to me.

He'll be lucky to make it to the summit of Katahdin, right alone Springer.
He ain't breaking any records with a 32 pound pack. You need to be an ultralighter with like an 8 pound pack to have a chance. I guess that's probably mostly food though. I bet he bails at less than half way. But yeah, that is a bad time of year to start a south bound.
Help me out here...... How does someone only resupply twice and carry a 33 lb pack? Lets say he has a 5lb. base weight, very unlikely, and that each leg is 14 days giving him a 42 day shattering. That would leave him with 28 lbs of food or 2 lbs a day. No way he will do that kind of mileage with that heavy of pack on 2lbs a day. I also question the wisdom of only two resupplies, why?

It's 28 degrees, wind chill 17, and snow on top of Mt Washington. Right now. In a few weeks, might be impassable for a few days at a time (on foot). "Smash" record?

The guy hasn't a clue and is delusional. Apparently, he's never hiked in ME/NH and definately not this time of year. There is already snow accumulating on the summits around here. Time to move on, nothing to see here.

I was in the Army and can finish the AT in 40 days with one resupply.
