Found this beauty this morning in Worcester, MA.
Since I use my ALDHA hat for scale, I figured I could post it on an AT forum.
I have seen big fungus before, but never on so beautiful.

Here I thought that I was the only person that took pictures of fungus. I have (at least I have tried to) attached a picture of a similar fungus that I saw on he Old Loggers Path last weekend. I did not put anything next to it to compare its size but it was close to 18" cross.
Holy crap! That's huge!

I don't know how you slow pokes ever expect to get any where with all this stopping to smell the fungus.
The trouble I have with campfires are the folks that carry a bottle in one hand and a Bible in the other.
You never know which one is talking.
I also stopped to smell (and photograph) the roses. It was my knees that slowed me down more than fungi and roses.

That's gorgeous, what is it?
...I think I want to eat it, reminds me of those Hostess pink marshmallow snowballs.
Once on the job this fella (Mountain Joe we called him) brought in what he called "Momma Funge" he breaded and fried them, they were as big and as thick as T-Bone steaks...covered the whole paper plate, and were very tasty. He said he collected them at the base of oak trees and had been doin' so for many years, and was taught about them by an old timer and friend of his....there were good and quite the meal for lunch that day.
I believe it's a thistle flower. And Rickb---it was taken on a Panasonic point and shoot, the Lumix LX3 (or LX5).
ah...didn't notice it head on like that, here's a thistle I shot.013.jpg
Nice one Tipi. Looks like something from Dr. Seuss.
