Description for Timber Rattler on the Approach Trail

This Timber Rattler found me while I was heading southbound on the approach trail in April '06 for a weekend hike. He let off a loud rattle and I stopped immediatly in my tracks. He was about 2 ft off the trail and was probably 3 ft long.

Very cool picture of the rattle* .. i've seen many snakes along the trails in pa ... but nothing like this guy ...
