I've been testing Zelph's Doodah stove (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=22425&highlight=Doodah+stove) recently and testing stoves seems to spawn new ideas for me. I hadn't made a new stove since the Turbo Tea-Lite (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=22524) so I took a break from testing and had some fun.

Just three materials (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=16083&c=516)are needed: A 24 oz. beer or energy drink can cut down to 5/8" tall, a 1" section of Budweiser aluminum bottle, and a wick from Plumber's cloth (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=11900&catid=favorites) or fiberglass.

Assembled (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=16084&c=516). Final weight is 12 grams

On fire (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=16082&c=516). 15 ml boiled two cups in 5:40. Flame-out in 7:00

:)

Clever, well done. I like that it sits so low to the ground. And did you repaint that Heineken pot?

You know, you guys are going to keep fooling around until you get a stove that's so efficient that it actually puts fuel back into the stove.

At which point I'll start packing Everclear as stove fuel.

Yes, the pot is painted with Hi-Temp engine enamel. Pure vanity. Doesn't affect performance good or bad.

I suspect Zelph would have a go at it, but can't be bothered since he doesn't drink.

Just our luck.

In point of fact, could I get you to reconsider this particular project? We goof around a lot on this site, which is fine, but second and third degree burns just ain't funny.

It's not even funny when you escape with merely losing your eyebrows.

Seriously, David, what's your procedure for this?

skidsteer,

Nice looking stove!!

Doesn't the aluminum beer bottle piece function, in fact, as the pot holder?

Is the hollow of the bottle connected by holes to the outer can, where the wick is located?

Thanks

Tom

Yes, that's it exactly.

No but it could be and I may at some point.. I just threw this one together to try it out. It holds together pretty well as is because the beer bottle piece fits exactly in the bottom ring of the beer can.

pouring more alcohol over a lit stove is a bad idea, a very very bad idea, (i learned that one from personal experience, accidental not intentional)
while it can result in smooth legs for a while, it has a few other consequences: http://www.trailjournals.com/photos.cfm?id=157473 http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=143591

Tell you what, why don't you PM your procedure to a couple of folks you trust and see if what their take is?

What's the design goal? To simmer?

That'd be handy for some folks if you can pull it off. Stay safe.

David!!!!!! If you don't stop this foolishness, I'll never speak to you again. You will be a disgrace to the "Stovie Federation" There is no need for such a procedure, there are stoves that hold enough fuel to accomplish all of our requirements. No need to re-fuel mid-burn.

Skids, nice adaptation and use of your outstanding skills. Nice photos

OH NO! Not the Stovies!*

Run, David, run! Meet me at the nearest white blaze and we'll send a distress signal via the AT Rumor Mill. Maybe we can regroup and and counterattack with Romulan Ale if we get reinforcements from SSWB (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=18685)! Someone's got to stop those Stovies!

David, do not run, do not run, resistance is futile!!!!! That goes for the SSWB (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=18685)! also, resistance is futile.

Yes, The Stovies Rule!!!!!! We will assimilate:mad: We are imune to Romulan Ale, resistance is futile!!!!!

That SSWB group should take some shots at The Stilletto cone, thanks for the link:mad: i like my new image.

real good numbers - its almost enough to make me go back to playing err making stoves just to try it - unfortunately there is one small problem with the design - the burner does not fit in the pot as far as I can tell from the pics - not a big deal I know but we all have our standards ;)

It fits easily so long as the pot is chopped, HOI. In fact, I could get it in an unchopped pot if I had to; But I'd never get it back out.

O.D. of the stove is 2 7/8".

...And I think a 12 oz. soda can(2 5/8" Diameter)would work just as well.

No excuses now.:p

You could carry a simple sideburner(aka potted meat can stove) and always
have a cold stove if you need to light more fuel to finish your cook. The
one I made per Sgt Rock's instructs will boil 2 cups on 20ml in about 5 minutes if you use the right pot and windscreen is properly adjusted.Weighs
next to nothing,is cheap and easy to make;all you need is the can and a push pin. Also makes a great backup if you happen to step on your primary
alcohol burner:D

great stove skids... whats the capacity, also 1 question is that little ring in the middle sealed or are you making it so alchy gets in there and burns? any how great design(by zelph ;-) haha)

It'll hold 1 1/3 fluid oz. which is overkill. The second one will be an even lower profile because I'm aiming for one ounce max capacity and using a flat bottom tin for the main cup. Probably won't be able to tell if there is a stove under the pot without looking close. ;)

The middle ring is not sealed and lets fuel seep to the wick evenly all the way around. The wick will absorb +/- 20 ml before you see the fuel level start to rise in the center cup.

I've gotten great inspiration from Zelph on many stoves. She has a unique talent for stove design. :D

I found a great little aluminum tin the other day. An air freshener from California scents (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=16145&c=516) that measures 2 5/8" diameter.

Using this tin, I got the weight of the stove (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=16144&c=516)down to 8 grams and the performance (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=16143&c=516)is the same.

I agree completely. Problem is I took a Turbo Tea-Lite (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=22524)on the Pinhoti a couple weeks ago and it rocked my world.

I'm gonna really have to discipline myself to carry a different stove next time out. Might have to carry both and just alternate.;)
